Great restaurants nearby

by Administrator 27. August 2012 11:07

There are several good and reasonably priced restaurants within 5 mins walking distance to our bed and breakfast.

Alternatively if you are too tired to go out after a long flight or driving for hours you can also make a telephone order for any food of your choice , most popular being a pizza.

You can locate the following restaurants on the local map which is given on Yellow Information Sheet you will find in your room:

Lola Rosa Café

Down the road a very shoort walkfrom UBB, a trendy spot for hipsters and students, this restaurant attracts not only vegetarians but those on the quest for the perfect burrito; serving wonderful, healthy, and affordable foods like salads, soups, and veggie burgers—and both the healthiest and most delicious nachos you can find anywhere! Lola Rosa Café completes the casual dining experience with charming French staff and a welcoming atmosphere. A nice touch is the drawers found at each table, where diners leave notes for future visitors!

Instead of turning left to Lola Rosa, if you turn right then you will find yourself in a local greasy spoon:

McGill Pizza which has everthing to do with pizza, hamburgers and fries

In a city with so many pizza joints, it would be a shame to miss out on the local favorite that’s just a short walk away! Countless residents of the area claim Amelios to be the best pizza in the city—for eating in or for delivery. A McGill staple for over 25 years, Amelios pizza is made the old fashioned way, and selection ranges from traditional to innovative types like the “Reuben”, and the “Club”, as well as fresh subs and pastas. Caution: you may be in for a lineup (but it’s worth it)!

Hielo Grill & Bar

Ideal if you are looking for a nice terrace to relax on in the summertime, Coasters Bar & Grill is also noted for its amazing burgers, fun cocktails, and good drink specials.

Chez Cora

A popular breakfast/lunch chain, Chez Cora’s is very family-friendly, and serves generous portions packed with plenty of fruit. They offer an especially pleasing variety of smoothies, as well as crepes with all the fixings.

Our Location is so “Central”!

by Administrator 27. August 2012 10:51

Sometimes we feel like we are sitting at the perfect center of Montreal city life.

As part of my doctors orders to keep walking to improI used to walk miles and miles everyday and never got bored.

As soon as you get out of our front door and turn right (west), you see McGill University Physics department. Keep walking and you go through the McGill Campus and reach Sherbrooke street. Another 10 mins of walking and you find yourself at the door of Montreal fine arts museum and all the fancy art houses near. Keep walking west, then you hit Concordia Campus and the all the interesting restaurants around the area.

Instead of turning right, if you turn left, (eastwards), and keep walking along Prince Arthur Street, first you arrive at an underground shopping mall which has a big grocery store, a fitness club with the best jacuzzi in the world, and Cinema du Parc which is a repertoire cinema. If you keep walking eastwards (instead of going down into the mall) the you eventually come to St-Laurent street which is “Party Central” for younger people after 11pm. Keep walking thru pedestrian street and you will eventually come to a big park with a pool and big trees which is a good resting place.

If you want to skip city life completely, then all you have to do is walk towards the mountain as soon as you leave the door and you will find yourself in a huge park (comparable to Central park in New York) which is a perfect place for a tranquil walk all the way to the top of the mountain for a perfect look out. The east side of the park becomes a mecca for tam tam players on weekends which makes an interesting watch and join to dance if you dare…

The last direction, which is straight down from our front door (south), is the most expensive option as it takes you directly to downtown shopping stores for clothes, electronics. If you can stop before the shopping area however, there is McGill Music building which has many halls which offers free concerts by students or staff.

New! “Family & Friends” Card

by Administrator 27. August 2012 10:49

We, the nice people who work at the UBB, have become familiar with the frequent faces we see over time and now we would like to return the favor by offering you the 7th night free. Please ask for a card at the front desk and have it signed everytime a friend or a family member stays with us. Once you have six nights signed then any person of your choice can stay the 7th night free. For example if your mom stays 5 nights and then when grandpa comes, he pays 1 night and gets one night free. Or you can keep the card, and get it signed by UBB when parents come and stay for 6 nights and when they leave you can invite your favourite friend on the 7th night for free. Please do not forget to ask front desk about it…
